I think I am starting to get tired of this snow.... I'm not really sure about it yet, though.
Finished white arabian horse felting (photos eventually). Took my older offspring and her friend to see the Percy Jackson movie. I'm not sure if the ppl making the movie read the same books we did.... Built a snow fort today. Threw snowballs at my kids.

Yay! So I was just accepted to be in the Flat Rock Play House in Flat Rock (NC). Pretty exciting. It is on Mother's Day weekend (see my home page for all info).
Also, for those you you who did not come last Friday to see me at the reception at the Woolworth Walk--well, shame on you! No, just kidding, because I didn't even go myself! It was canceled due to foul weather, and will be happening tomorrow, same time/place. So, bring your camera, and come eat some of the snacks. Oh, and look at art. You should look at other people's art, too, maybe. I made my first felted hat ( I followed a pattern), and I shaped it into a Fedora. I do so like fedoras. Even the name is cool. I am now stitching a band and liner onto it. Also, I have started an amigurumi cat which is about 3/4ths finished, and I am trying to convince myself to finish. It is looking alright so far. Oh! So I think I'm going to add a new section to my site here where you can see what publications I have been in. I'm starting to lose track. And it seems useful somehow.... I have also started a new horse felting, about 13x16". A pretty white horse running. I have already a black horse with flowing mane and tail. (it's at the Woolworth Gallery right now). Well, CIAO for now:) I expect to see each and every one of you at my (and other artist...found I had to share the wall, drnt) Featured Woolworth Artist thingy for February 2010! There will be a reception, with snacks and drinks, on Feb 5th, 4-6PM. I will be showing all-new needle-felted pieces , AND I will also be moving up from the dungeon dimensions (IE downstairs). Yep, I will now be upstairs at the Woolworth Walk! I am pretty excited, especially as there are at least 83% more people who stroll the upstairs. I haven't decided on my wall color yet, and I have to alter my sign to make it more visible. The only downside is that they only want me to do ONE medium, and so I chose to do only the needle-feltings. But I really want to also show and sell my paintings!! ONE medium, here, ppl. It's kind of silly, but I guess people may get confused when they see one person doing many things, and maybe the gallery would like multi-ppl ike myself to rent more than one wall.
In other news: I have been felting a lot lately, here's one of the newest. I'm still huffy about not being able to take good pictures (yes, very well could be user-error...). Most places want 300dpi+ for images, but mostly I cannot get any better than 75dpi, when the cam is even set at best, and I am using a tripod (which I got for Christmas YAY!!). I really am not interested in learning very much on a camera ( I really have only so much time in my day---oh, yes, I am using some of that time right now, aren't I? *cough*). Well, anyway, Hope everyone out there has a lovely day, and I can't wait until it get's 50 degrees outside this week. We are not even near the end of winter and I'm already starting to plan the garden..... Ah, so the "big day" for so many are over. How does everyone feel? I feel fine. Well, ok, not really, I actually have a cold, and it's a bit of a bugger. Other than that, I'm great. We've moved in, and are still unpacking.
I have not made any art for the past month (aside from Origami, but that doesn't count). I am SOOO behind! There is such a long list of things I haven't done; work I haven't even started, not to mention all this computer/web/paper stuff. I hope everyone had a lovely holiday, and a happy new year. Che November 21, 2009
It is almost December. Which means it is almost the next year. 2010. !!?? Can you believe this? So today is Saturday, market day. We pick up our CSA box from our favorite local farmer, a dozen happy eggs (it seems we have strayed from our vegan diet...), and a half-gallon apple cider. I try not to even think about all the other yummy things for sale there today....mmmm. The clydesdales were NOT in the Asheville Holiday parade today. :/ We are going to be moving! Somehow we will be purchasing a tree to decorate next weekend (from said market above), and yet will not move until the beginning of December! Ha! Maybe we will decorate it here, and wheel it over to the new place! As far as art...hmmm, what have I been doing? Nothing much, really. I have been knitting scarves, crocheting some hats, and not much else. I did make a batch of small needle feltings in the beginning of this month. Some sheep, and trees, and....hmm, must have been mostly sheep. Winter is on-coming, and I really should start making some stock. The roasted chestnut fellow is selling fresh chestnuts outside the grocery store already.....*longsniiiffff*...ahhh....I can't wait to get some!! I bought some special chocolates (and marzipan!!) and advent calendars already recently! We will be having a lovely young lady visit us for the thanksgiving holiday. Last year she helped us make our Gingerbread Yurt. This year....maybe Gingerbread of straw-bale construction??? I am planning on starting to teach one-on-one needle-felting classes. I will post updates on this venture as soon as I notify myself of what they are. Right, so, being a visual artist, it should be obvious that I really don't have a lot to say. Yet, I have started a website (obviously, since you are on it atm), and I have been told that I should have bodies of text on my pages (?!?!? ... and write what?), and also that I should keep up my blog, so that ppl know that I keep my site up-to-date (which I do, since I tweak it at least once a week), and...what I am doing...? Now, no one is really actually reading this (Surprise, I haven't hit 'world-famous artist' status yet), so, I get to talk to myself...publicly, online. I am sure this makes sense somewhere, but not in my world! SO, here goes, the beginning of my 'this is what I have been doing' -ness. :
Oct 23-25th was the uber-exciting Southeast Animal Fiber Fair here in Asheville. Yaaay! I happened to be kid-free for the early part of my day, and had a fellow artsy friend come with me. It was like...kids in a candy store.....OR, artists in a fine-arts store (*drool* Pearls). Being surrounded by all sorts of natural fibers, dyed a multitude of colors, all available for sale, with opportunity of price-shopping, and knowing that I CAN buy (most of my wool for the year's work come from this Fair) materials...is just too much! Well, anyway, I can't possibly relay the excitement, but there was much excitement, and I came home with lots of goodies. Oct 31. Halloween. Absolute Favorite Holiday. Family Costumes: Granny Weatherwax (me), Whoopee Cusion, Blue Space cat, and Garden Gnome (no, not that silly travel ocity gnome, either). Alas, one of our numbers fell sick (un-begnomest to us till Halloween morning..bummer), one was away, and it rained all day. The two remaining, (myself and my Space Cat) went with umbrellas. You can't keep a good cat down. I of course traded the Space Cat his (gross) sugar candy, for three books, and organic fair trade dark chocolate. mmmm! The gross candy will be donated to local adults who don't care, and will eat the stuff despite it's grossness. Oh, right, so this week was spent making costumes! Yay! sewing! Ah, yes, so, is this what it feels like, all those people with blogs? You basically sit and talk to yourself, and eventually someone comes by and read what you said? I am not entirely convinced, but I suppose it could be something like a newspaper in a way of spreading news.
My news goes like this: This Past Saterday, I (and a friend. See Links on Homepage) participated in a small craft fair called the Native Arts and Crafts Fair. Which makes my third vendor booth! I first was lucky to be drawn for a shared Woolworth Walk booth at Bele Chere, ( I don't know if I will ever do that again!), and second booth was a shared one with two friends (again, see links homepage) at LAAFF, which I would definitely do again, because it was rather fun and interesting. I have applied for the Big Crafty, and have high hopes that my name will be chosen as one of the lucky ones. I do so love the Big Crafty. As far as other news, the rain has finally stopped (how lovely the sun is...), and Autumn is in the air. And oh, how I do so love Autumn... absolutely my favorite time of year. Wow! New post in my very own blog! So, after much confusion, and learning about DNS and a-records, and trying to fugure out what to put in what box (with no clear instructions anywhere) I finally put something in the right place and poof! It's working! My domain was parked in the 'bad side of town' , so my web of trust told me, and now it's connected to the website I'v been working on! (not the bad side of town) |
